Happy Halloween to Everyone!!!!

I’m sending out this email as there are a few announcements to get out to our Association:

  1. Deadline to register for the Legal Defense Fund is tomorrow, November 1st. You definitely want to make sure you are registered so you can take the opportunity to attend our FREE Legal Defense Seminar in Woodbridge at the Acacia Youth Center on Tuesday, December 5th. The Legal Defense Fund has an amazing line-up of speakers from the NJ Department of Labor to discuss sick time buy outs, comp time, overtime and other recent labor law changes that affect Municipal Clerks, Frank Marshall from the NJLM to discuss OPMA & Remote Meetings (there is a new bill being proposed that will impact how you do remote meetings-be the 1st to know of these changes), and e-Mazzanti will be there to discuss Cyber Security. Breakfast and Lunch are provided to our attendees.  There will be CEU’ s in Professional Development and IT for Municipal Clerk along with CEU’s for CFO, Tax Collector, CPM, and QPA. The registration link is anticipated to be sent out to members this week. Visit www.njclerks.org to register for the Legal Defense fund and your MCANJ membership. P.S.- We will be selling some MCANJ merchandise at this event so you can pick up some holiday gifts for yourself or your office staff 😊

  1. Congratulations to Christina Fischer of South Bound Brook for being nominated for the Spotlight Award. Christina was nominated for going above and beyond the title of Municipal Clerk. Christina wears many hats for the Borough of South Bound Brook. She is the Administrator, Technical Assistant to the Construction Official, Code Enforcement, Clean Communities Coordinator, and does so much more. Christina will do anything she can to help every resident, employee, Council Members, or anyone else in her community. Christina is a great leader, co-worker, mother, wife, and friend to so many. She works long hours, always answers the phone, day or night, and does everything she can to make South Bound Brook a wonderful Community to live and work in. Christina does so much behind the scenes that residents do not see. She is always working to make the Borough run smoothly and thrive in every way possible. She has a great heart and deserves recognition for her commitment to South Bound Brook, the long hours she puts in and everything else she does for everyone. Congratulations again Christina!!!

 MCANJ MEMBER SPOTLIGHT  AWARD

Do you know a Municipal Clerk, Acting Municipal Clerk, Deputy Municipal Clerk, Assistant Municipal Clerk, County Clerk, Deputy County Clerk, Commissioner Clerk or a Deputy Commissioner Clerk who is a current member of MCANJ (Municipal Clerks’ Association of New Jersey) and they bring positive attention to the role of “Clerk”? They are eligible for nomination!!!! We want to recognize a MCANJ member who promotes their position as “Clerk” through civic activities and events in their work or home community that is outside the scope of their normal duties and responsibilities. Nominees who are selected for recognition will be announced through electronic communications and posted on the Municipal Clerks’ Association of New Jersey website. So if you know a fellow Clerk who has been doing amazing things, go to the MCANJ website at www.njclerks.org, fill out the Spotlight Nomination Form and send it to Michele Bobrowski at president@mcanj.us so we can all celebrate this achievement!!

  1. A big shout out to Middlesex County for winning our County Registration contest with 88% of their Municipalities registering and paying by today. Middlesex County has won a free 2024 Conference Registration valued at $430.00 for a lucky Clerk to get. Congratulations Middlesex County!! Burlington County was 2nd with 78% and Monmouth and Morris County tied for 3rd with 74%. Thank you to everyone who has registered and continues to keep our organizational network and family strong with 752 members as of today. Keeping up to date with what is going on is key to our professions and I’m so glad to see you all be involved.
  2. I will be having April send out several surveys shortly-if you can answer them to assist in the planning process of our 2024 conference that will be fantastic!!!!
  3. Save the Date!! Our Annual Conference is scheduled for April 23-26, 2024 at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino. We will have CEU’s in all disciplines and plenty of Registrar credits as well!!!! We are going camping in AC and I hope you can join us for this amazing learning & networking adventure in 2024!!!!
  4. We have several fun fundraisers in the works with our 1st one starting next week-a Municipal Clerk Cookbook 😊. We will be sending out a word template that you can fill out with your favorite, tried and true family recipes to share for all and can even include a photo if you wish of you and a loved one making that recipe. More information will be forthcoming in that email blast.  We are having Medium Rich Braconi return with two events in 2024- one in the Northern section of NJ (Fairfield Township) and one in the Southern section of NJ (Belmar). Our event last year sold out quickly and he is amazing!!!! You don’t want to miss one of these events!!!
  5. In the October Edition of the Quill and on the MCANJ website you will find forms to submit for Clerk of the Year (Deadline is December 31st), MCANJ Secretary (Deadline is January 15, 2024), and Scholarship Applications (Deadline is January 15, 2024). For those that received CMC and MMC Scholarship Awards in 2022 & 2023, your award will be extended for 2024 as we are working with Rutgers University to secure programs to obtain IIMC credits towards your CMC & MMC besides Athenian Dialogues and we are asking the By-Laws Committee to approve a change to permit scholarship award recipients to utilize their award towards IIMC programs offered; as of right now our by-laws only permit the scholarship recipients to use their award for Rutgers University programs which are not being offered. I am working with Laura Flagg from Rutgers University to get some amazing leadership programs offered to our Municipal Clerks in NJ.
  6. The IIMC Region II Conference being held in Dewey Beach, Delaware is scheduled for Wednesday, January 10th-Friday, January 12th. Registration is open for those looking to obtain additional credits towards their CMC and MMC. CEU’s from New Jersey will not be offered as this is an out of State event and not being sponsored by MCANJ to obtain credits.  You can find additional information here: https://www.iimc.com/95/Region-II
  7. Those attending the League from November 14th-16th- Below are some sessions to obtain CEU’s for your RMC. The League is collecting food donations for a local food bank, so please participate and bring some non-perishable food items with you to help this great cause.
