FEMA and FCC Emergency Alert Test 10/4/23

Good afternoon,

The Morris County Office of Emergency Management wants you to be aware that FEMA, in coordination with the Federal Communications Commission (FCC), will conduct a nationwide test of the Emergency Alert System (FAS) and Wireless Emergency Alerts (WEA) on Wednesday, 10/04/23 beginning at approximately 2:20pm. • The WEA portion of the test will be directed to all consumer cell phones and will broadcast for approximately thirty (30) minutes, though all wireless phones should receive the message only once within the thirty (30) minute timeframe. • The EAS portion of the test will be sent to radios & televisions and is scheduled to last approximately one (1) minute. • The test message will state: "This is a nationwide test of the Emergency Alert System, issued by the Federal Emergency Management Agency, covering the United States from 2:20pm to 2:50pm hours ET.

This is only a test. No action is required by the public."
