On Monday, we will celebrate Memorial Day. It is a day to commemorate and honor those who have died in service to our country, and a time to reflect on the ultimate sacrifice that they made.
Traditionally, this holiday weekend also marks the unofficial start of summer. This year, Memorial Day Weekend will have a special meaning as our nation continues to recover from the COVID-19 pandemic and New Jersey takes large steps to reopening.
Today, both the statewide indoor mask mandate and the requirement for maintaining six feet of social distancing were lifted. Even with these actions, businesses may continue to require individuals to wear face masks.
On Monday, during his briefing, Governor Murphy stressed that if you are not fully vaccinated, the state strongly encourages you to continue to practice social distancing in addition to masking. In Mendham Township, fully vaccinated individuals are no longer required to wear masks in municipal buildings; however, if you prefer to keep wearing a mask, we encourage you to do so.
Additionally, as recommended by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, NJ is still requiring masking in healthcare settings, long-term care facilities, correctional facilities, homeless shelters, and public forms of transportation.
On Friday, June 4th, all indoor gathering limits will be lifted in NJ.
As more and more New Jerseyans get vaccinated against COVID-19 and our economy continues to recover, the future's looking brighter. As of yesterday, 8,526,571 total doses of COVID-19 vaccines have been administered in NJ and 4,157,475 New Jerseyans are now fully vaccinated.
However, you spend this Memorial Day weekend, please take a moment to reflect on the ultimate sacrifice that over one million Americans have made for our freedom.
Have a good weekend and be safe.

On Monday, May 17th the Governor signed an Executive Order eliminating the outdoor mask mandate altogether in settings open to the public. Additionally, there are no longer limits on outdoor gatherings. This news comes in time for proms, graduations, and Summer 2021!
While many other states have lifted mask mandates as a result of the updated CDC guidance, Governor Murphy reaffirmed on the 17th that NJ will keep the mask mandate in place in public settings for the time being. We will continue to update you as more information becomes available.
Last summer, our Recreation Department, Police Department, Fire Department, First Aid Squad, Department of Public Works, and Office of Emergency Management came together to make our July 4th activities a success, and this year will be no different!
This year, we will kick-off July 4th weekend with the Township’s 2nd annual public fireworks show at Mosle Field on Friday, July 2nd. Entertainment and Activities will take place from 6:30pm - 10:00pm. The gates will open at 6:30pm. The fireworks will be set-off from behind the baseball diamond and, to ensure safety, there will be a 350-400 ft fallout area. All attendees will be seated on the football field.
Like last year, this event is free to the public. If you or your business would like to sponsor<https://register.communitypass.net/reg/cat_program_class_detail.cfm?s=&t=&s…> the event, please email our Recreation Director David Guida at dguida(a)mendhamtownship.org.
We will conclude our Township celebrations on Sunday, July 4th with a drive-by parade. The parade will start at 9:05am at Union Schoolhouse Road and end at the Mendham Township Elementary School. If you or an organization you are a part of would like to be part of the parade, please email me at sneibart(a)mendhamtownship.org.
Have a good weekend,
