A lot of exciting things are happening in Mendham Township!
On Monday, September 13th, the Historic Park at Pitney Farm was officially opened to the public!<https://www.morriscountynj.gov/Morris-County-News/Morris-County-Mendham-Tow…> The park was built after years of planning and public input on a seven-acre tract acquired by Mendham Township in 2009. It features walking trails that are handicap accessible, grassy lawns, and meadow-like areas for passive recreation. This project has been spearheaded by Former Mayor Diana Orban Brown and the Township Committee Task Force which included a large stakeholder group.
Since August when Deputy Mayor Nick Monaghan announced the fundraising campaign for the new park, there have been over $20,000 in dedications made, which includes many new trees as well as additional amenities, such as benches and bluebird houses. There are still many items to adopt to “Make Your Mark on the Park.” Please click here for more information<https://register.communitypass.net/reg/cat_program_class_detail.cfm?s=&t=&s…>. Special thanks to Bill Moran and the “Gardening Angels'' who spent countless hours working this past summer - weeding, planting new greenery, and assisting in the general maintenance within the walled garden to prepare it for the grand opening! If you haven’t had a chance to visit the Historic Park at Pitney Farm or the walled garden yet, I encourage you to check it out!
Additionally, this past Monday, September 27th, Mendham Township broke ground on its new Police Station Building<https://patch.com/new-jersey/mendham-chester/mendham-township-police-break-…>.
Over the last 30 years, there have been multiple efforts and proposals to update Mendham Township Police Department’s Headquarters. Unfortunately, for one reason or another, none of those efforts came to fruition until now. Due to the commitment of the Mendham Township Committee’s investment in its infrastructure, we are excited that the Mendham Township Police Department will have a new home by July 2022. The new police station project is part of a larger Township infrastructure plan which also includes upgrades to the existing Town Hall building and library. As many of you know, during the COVID-19 pandemic, Mendham Township’s Recreation Department, headed by Recreation Director David Guida, expanded its event offerings significantly. We are happy to report that this October is no different!
On Saturday, October 9th, join us for a Doggy Dip at Brookside Beach from 10:00am - 12:00pm. Later that evening, we are hosting our 2nd Annual Haunted Hike at Ralston/Wysong parks. From 6:00pm - 7:00pm the hike will be suitable for younger children, and 7:00pm - 8:00pm we will have a super spooky option for folks of all ages.
On Monday, October 18th, the band Brian Kirk and the Jerks is coming back to Mendham Township for our 2nd Annual Free Fall Concert from 6:00pm - 7:30pm. If you have any questions, please contact David Guida at dguida(a)mendhamtownship.org.
On Sunday, October 31st, the Township is having its 2nd Annual Mendham Halloween Party and Costume Contest on Brookside Field from 1:00pm - 3:00pm. This event is open to all ages - there will be games, crafts, music, and prizes.
As we prepare for the next budget season, David, Township Committeeman Jordan Orlins, and I will be hosting a listening session on Wednesday, October 20th at 7:00pm at the Mendham Township Municipal Building. We would like to hear any ideas that the community has for additional recreation programming.
Hope you have a great rest of your weekend.
Sarah Neibart
Mayor, Mendham Township
