This week the State of New Jersey announced that on April 19th, all New Jerseyans age 16 and over will be eligible for COVID-19 vaccinations. This news comes as NJ’s vaccination program continues to make progress. About 74% of those 65 - 79 and 70% of those 80 and older have received at least one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine. As of yesterday, 5,141,870 total doses of COVID-19 vaccines had been administered in NJ and 2,030,971 New Jerseyans are now fully vaccinated.
The NJ Department of Health has also updated its travel and quarantine guidelines to align with the recommendations from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. NJ is no longer advising fully vaccinated individuals who travel domestically to self-quarantine or get tested after traveling. Also, fully vaccinated travelers do not need to get tested before leaving the United States unless it is required by their destination. The federal government requires fully vaccinated travelers coming to the US from abroad to have a negative COVID-19 viral test within three days of traveling or documentation of recovery from COVID-19 in the past three months before they board a flight to the US.
On Wednesday, the NJDOH reported that 827 individuals have tested positive for variants of SARS-CoV-2. 806 of these reported cases are the UK variant B.1.1.7, which has been found in every county in our state. The CDC is still learning how effective the COVID-19 vaccines are against variants of the virus. For more information on this topic, please follow this link to the CDC website<https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/vaccines/fully-vaccinated.html>.
Have a good weekend and stay safe.

Spring Brush Collection will be on Monday, April 12, 2021
If you have brush to be collected by the public works department, please follow these simple guidelines:
* Place material at the side of the road on April 12 by 7:00 a.m., with ends facing the roadway.
* Do not tie bundles.
* If you want to tie the bundles, use string only, NO wire.
* Bundles must be less than twelve inches in diameter and six feet in length.
* Do not put steel rods or any metal objects in with the wood.
* Individual branches/logs cannot be more than 6" in diameter and between 18" and 6' in length.
* Please:
* No tree stumps
* No firewood
* No logs over six feet long
It is crucial that the above guidelines be followed. In the past, our men have been caught off guard when chipping bundles that contained wire and even metal rods, hidden inside the brush. This will damage the chipper or worse, cause serious injury to our workers.
This past Wednesday, the state unveiled a beta version of an Appointment Finder<https://covid19.nj.gov/pages/finder> application on its COVD-19 Information Hub<http://covid19.nj.gov/>. This new tool aggregates information across different scheduling platforms across the state, multiple times per hour, helping individuals find appointments.
Earlier this week, the New Jersey Department of Health also shared its latest predictive COVID-19 modeling that is guiding the state’s decision-making processes on reopening.
The state’s moderate case scenario is predicting that on April 18th, NJ will report 5,445 new COVID-19 positive cases statewide and 2,669 hospitalizations. Under this scenario the state does not see daily new cases drop below 3,000 until the middle of June 2021 at the earliest, and the number of hospitalizations would not approach 1,000 until August 2021. This model takes into account the expected increases in vaccinations statewide and also assumes that the COVID-19 vaccines will average 95% in their efficacy against all variants of the virus. Although these are projections, they are not certainties and as we saw last spring, if we remain vigilant and continue social distancing, we can change the trajectory of these models.
Although there is continued uncertainty ahead, as of yesterday morning, 4,474,993 doses of the COVID-19 vaccine had been administered in NJ and there are 1,690,613 New Jerseyans who are now fully vaccinated. Additionally, next week the state expects to receive 551,320 COVID-19 vaccination doses which includes 131,600 doses of the Johnson & Johnson one-shot vaccine.
Also, this coming Monday April 5th, individuals in the following groups will become eligible for COVID-19 vaccinations: individuals aged 55-64, individuals aged 16+ with intellectual and/or developmental disabilities, higher education educators and support staff, librarians and library support staff, and workers in the following jobs: communications, IT, media, real estate, building and home services, retail financial institutions, sanitation, laundry services, and utilities.
As we move towards spring and the state continues to administer vaccination doses and lessen restrictions, we will continue providing updates.
Have a good weekend, and Happy Easter!
