A week from today, we will be celebrating our Country’s Independence Day! Mendham Township has a long tradition of celebrating the Fourth of July in style, traditionally with the Brookside Parade which is known as the “Grandest Little Hometown Parade in America”. This event is usually sponsored by the Brookside Community Club; however, due to the Coronavirus Pandemic, the Brookside Community Club canceled the parade. A group of Township stakeholders came together in May and discussed how we can put on a variety of events to celebrate the 4th of July in a safe and fun way that would abide by social distancing guidelines. Our Fourth of July activities include a drive-by parade, a celebration at the Brookside beach, and a free to the public fireworks show at Mosle Field.
The parade will start at 9:05am at Union School House Road and end at the Mendham Township Elementary School. For information on the parade route and where you can park and observe the parade, please click here.<http://www.mendhamtownship.org/cn/news/index.cfm?NID=51447&jump2=0>
After the parade, please join us at Brookside Beach for a celebration with food trucks, music, and bingo! For more information, please email our Director of Recreation David Guida at dguida(a)mendhamtownship.org.
Our celebrations will conclude at Mosle Field for Mendham Twp.’s first ever July 4th Fireworks Celebration! This event is free to the public. Due to social distancing guidelines, the number of individuals who can attend is limited. If you are interested in attending, please click here.<https://register.communitypass.net/reg/cat_program_class_detail.cfm?s=&t=&s…>
This show is NOT a drive-in show. Attendees will be expected to abide by social distancing guidelines and make sure they have a mask on them. The fireworks will be set-off from behind the baseball diamond and to ensure safety, there will be a 350-400 ft. fallout area. All attendees will be seated on the football field.
I would like to sincerely thank everyone who has taken part in our Fireworks Fundraising Campaign. Without the generous donations and sponsorships, this event would not be possible! Also, thank you to our Mendham Twp. Police Department, Fire Department, First Aid Squad, and Professional Staff. In addition to keeping us safe, the joy and creativity that they have helped cultivate over the last few months through safety and programming efforts, has been incredible.
Enjoy the last weekend of June, and hope to see you at our 4th of July Celebrations next week!

Mayor, Mendham Township

As we navigate through one of the most significant moments in history, we must remember that it's the shared experiences that keep us connected. The COVID-19 Project of the Mendhams is a joint effort between The Mendham Township Library, the Mendham Township Historical Preservation Commission, and the Township Committee - one that recognizes the need to document this moment in its present so that future generations will understand this experience in context.
Through stories, photographs, poetry and artwork, we encourage our Mendham community members of all ages to help us in documenting the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Mendham Township has been advised by the Southeast Morris County Municipal Utilities Authority of the Authority's need to undertake certain emergency repairs to its water system. In conjunction with those repairs, the Authority has advised the Township of a water emergency that will remain in effect through 2:00 pm on Monday, June 22, 2020, or until such time when repairs are completed. In response to this emergency and in accordance with the Township Water Ordinance, all residents are required during the course of the coming 72-hour period to reduce all discretionary water usage and, in doing so, to refrain from lawn sprinkling, car washing, and other extraneous uses.
This past Monday marked the start of Stage Two of New Jersey’s “restart and recovery” effort. It’s exciting to have more retail stores open and to have an opportunity to dine outside. As this stage progresses and more businesses open, we need to remain vigilant and not forget the important measures that led to case numbers declining and the opportunity to begin reopening.
Over the last few weeks, as New Jersey and much of the US was improving, states like Arizona, Florida, and Texas have seen an increasing number of COVID-19 positive cases and hospitalizations. This serves as an important reminder - the pandemic is not over. Some cities around the country are even pausing their re-opening efforts because of COVID-19 concerns.
Unfortunately, the virus is still with us. In order to keep moving forward with our recovery plan, we need to continue practicing the social distancing measures that have protected us over the last few months. Keep a distance between yourself and other people, at least six feet. While in public places, wear a cloth face covering that covers both your mouth and nose. Wash your hands often. If you are sick, stay home, and avoid close contact with people who are sick.
Additionally, get tested. There are now more than 255 locations in the state to get tested. Visit covid19.nj.gov/testing<https://covid19.nj.gov/pages/testing> to find a testing site or talk to your doctor. Testing is available for all residents who want it or need it. If uninsured, multiple sites throughout the state will still provide a test, with a number of free testing opportunities.
It's also important that individuals with underlying medical conditions, such as heart disease, diabetes, or lung disease, take steps to reduce the risk of their exposure. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention released data this week that showed that deaths were 12 times higher, and hospitalizations six times higher, among individuals with underlying conditions. These individuals should take extra precautions to protect their health, such as avoiding large gatherings, and certainly avoiding individuals who are sick.
As we move to the next openings of this phase on Monday, we must remain cautious and vigilant.
Stay well, and have a great weekend.
Sarah Neibart,
Mayor, Mendham Township
