The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has authorized emergency use of Johnson &
Johnson’s COVID-19 vaccine. This vaccine only requires one dose and does not require
ultra-cold chain storage. Yesterday, Governor Murphy reported that New Jersey expects to
receive an initial shipment of roughly 70,000 Johnson & Johnson vaccination doses next
week. These doses are in addition to the first and second doses of the Pfizer and Moderna
vaccine that the state receives weekly.
Hopefully, this authorization will help rectify the current imbalance of COVID-19 vaccine
supply and demand in NJ. At this point, is it unlikely that you will be offered a choice
of which vaccine you will get, as supplies are too scarce.
