NEW YORK STEWART INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT TO HOST MULTI-AGENCY EMERGENCY RESPONSE DRILL ON SATURDAY, MAY 15

Exercise will have no impact on flight operations, but airline passengers and motorists may notice emergency vehicles in and around the airport

New York Stewart International Airport will host an emergency response drill on Saturday, May 15, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. The exercise, which simulates an aircraft incident, will have no impact on flight operations, but airline passengers and motorists may observe smoke and rescue vehicles in and around the airport.

The Port Authority is conducting the drill in conjunction with the New York Air National Guard and mutual aid services to test coordination and enhance response procedures. Drill participants include the New York Air National Guard Fire Department, Orange County Department of Emergency Services, New York State Police, Port Authority Office of Emergency Management, New York Stewart International Airport and airline staff, U.S. federal law enforcement agencies, several mutual aid fire departments and EMS.

In preparation for the full-scale exercise, fire rescue teams will be utilizing a mobile Aircraft Rescue and Firefighting (ARFF) unit for training throughout the day today. It will not interfere with airport operations.
