Sending out this email to let you all know that you can now register for the annual MCANJ Conference for this April at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino from Tuesday, April 23rd to Friday, April 26th. The Conference Committee has been hard at work to make sure this will be an amazing conference experience for all our attendees! Start packing your flannels for a Camp MCANJ learning adventure!
Highlights for this year’s conference include:
* Offering over 22 CEU’s in All Disciplines (Records, License, IT, Ethics, Elections, Prof. Development, Finance)
* Offering 4 CMR Credits
* For those going for your CMC/MMC- you have a opportunity to earn over 7+ IIMC credits
* Attached is a flyer for those looking to obtain CMC/MMC credits-Rutgers will be hosting a Conflict Resolution course this year earning you 2.5 credits on Tuesday, April 23rd.
* Also attached is the directions to follow for purchase orders/checks for the Hard Rock
* Themed Dress-up Days to be comfortable while you learn

NOTE: Super important, make sure to book your hotel room early!! There will be two large conferences going on at the same time at the Hard Rock during the same week. The Hard Rock will be hosting our conference and the Office of Emergency Management Conference for State Police, County and Municipal OEM Coordinators. Our Conference Committee wants to make sure that everyone who wants to attend our conference reserves their rooms early.

Our Keynote Speaker is Oz Sanchez-who will be speaking to us about “Knowing No Limits.” Oz Sanchez grew up in Los Angeles and spent six years as a member of the US Marine Corps. He became a part of the Special Forces Unit, deploying twice to the Middle East. In 2001, while in the process of transferring to the Navy to become a Navy Seal, Sanchez was involved in a motorcycle accident that injured his spinal cord. He started handcycling competitively five years after the accident. Today, he is one of the top hand cyclists in the world. He represents the USA in multiple Paralympic events to earn him several gold medals. We look forward to hearing from Oz and listen to his story of sacrifice, heartbreak, and triumphant.

Hello Members of MCANJ-
I hope this message finds you all well and that you enjoyed the holidays these past few weeks with your loved ones. As the year comes to an end, the Executive Board wants to wish our Executive Director, Joel Popkin nothing but the best on his retirement from the Municipal Clerks' Association of NJ where he has served our membership and guided the Executive Board for many, many years and now he and his wife can enjoy more time relaxing in the sun in Florida.
Our Assistant Executive Director, Vinnie Buttiglieri who has been shadowing Joel over the past year to take over the role of Executive Director in 2024 has been afforded an opportunity to move to South Carolina the beginning of January to enjoy his retirement as well. The Executive Board wishes nothing but the best to these two incredible men and the best of luck on their new exciting chapters of their lives.
With all that being said, the Municipal Clerks' Association of NJ finds itself in need of an Executive Director to assist the Executive Board moving forward. As we regroup in the beginning of 2024, the Executive Board will be reviewing the job duties and responsibilities needed to assist our membership and Association. An ad for this position will be placed on our website soon for those interested in applying.
Our main focus is and will always be on the Association and to continue our long-standing tradition of quality education, resourcefulness, and networking for our members.
Though we are not as lucky as Joel and Vinnie to unwind and relax with retirement in the coming days, I can’t wait to see what you all accomplish in 2024 as Municipal Clerks!!

MCANJ is seeking applications for Secretary of the Executive Board!
For anyone seeking the position of Secretary on the Executive Board for the fiscal year 2024 - 2025 the attached application must be filed by January 15, 2024in order to be eligible for consideration by the membership at the Annual Meeting to be held during the Annual Education Conference in the spring. This position shall serve from July 1, 2024 through June 30, 2025.

MCANJ is accepting applications for Clerk of the Year!
CRITERIA TO BE NOMINATED: A County Association or an individual Clerk may nominate a candidate for Municipal Clerk of the Year. Previous honorees are those individuals who have made positive contributions to our profession for the benefit of all of us. The Association invites you to submit the name of a Municipal Clerk who has had an impact on our profession and who should be considered for this prestigious honor.

All nominees must be members of the Municipal Clerks’ Association of NJ, Inc., currently employed as Municipal Clerks and tenured in their positions.

Current members of the Executive Board and former recipients of the award are not eligible.

Qualifications must include activities within the MCANJ and may include related community and volunteer work.
The selection of the annual “Municipal Clerk of the Year” is made by the Executive Board and announced at the Association’s Annual Meeting held during the Association’s Annual Education Conference held each spring. Deadline for submission is December 31, 2023. See attached application.
